Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has cancelled a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was found guilty of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has withdrawn a death warrant. A second execution was still scheduled for Tuesday.
The decision came days after a botched lethal injection involving Christa Pike brought new questions over Florida's lethal injection process. The governor gave no immediate public explanation for cancelling the order for Thompson in particular.
